Hz info:On September 5, the Anhui Provincial Major Science and Technology Project "Industrialization Project for Intrinsic Fireproof Water-Based Coatings with an Annual Output of 5,000 Tons" was successfully accepted at the undertaking unit, Anhui Tianchen Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. This achievement marks a significant breakthrough in the research, development, and industrialization of high-end fireproof materials.

The project was led by Anhui Tianchen Chemical Industry Co., Ltd., in collaboration with Hefei University of Technology and Hefei University. It received support from the Anhui Provincial Department of Science and Technology in 2022. As the project undertaking unit, Anhui Tianchen Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. is a high-tech enterprise under China Salt Group. Since its establishment in 1999, the company has focused on the research, development, and production of polymer materials such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC) paste resin. As a leading enterprise in China’s PVC industry and one of the country’s six major PVC paste resin manufacturers, the company has an annual production capacity of 130,000 tons for PVC paste resin devices, with obvious advantages in its core products, providing a solid industrial foundation for the project.

At the technical level, the project focuses on fundamental innovation in fireproof materials. Unlike traditional methods that physically add flame retardants, the fireproof performance of this coating originates from molecular structure design. The project team used PVC particles as the core, selected acrylates, styrene, urethane, and other compounds as composite monomers, and employed pre-emulsified semi-continuous seeded emulsion polymerization technology to successfully prepare a series of core-shell structured PVC-based water emulsions. This ultimately led to the development of a water-based fireproof coating with intrinsic flame-retardant properties.

Based on this technological breakthrough, the new product has broad application prospects. The coating can be widely used in the new energy industry, providing efficient fire protection for energy storage station containers, battery racks, and new energy vehicle battery pack casings. It can also be applied in public safety areas with high population density, such as subway tunnels, hospitals, schools, and airports, as well as high-security-demand scenarios like data centers and precision instrument workshops. Additionally, it will promote the environmental upgrade of traditional fireproof coatings for steel structures and wood, helping companies capture opportunities in the green policy market. The industrialization scale of 5,000 tons per year indicates that the product is ready for large-scale market supply, offering new fireproof solutions for multiple high-end fields.

During the implementation process, the project achieved abundant innovative results. It applied for four national invention patents and two utility model patents, with two invention patents and two utility model patents already authorized. The core technology is fully protected by law. Meanwhile, the project also obtained approval for one Anhui Provincial New Product and one New Process. In combination with production practices, two enterprise standards were established, providing standardized support for large-scale production, quality control, and market promotion. This fully demonstrates the entire chain innovation capability from "technology research and development" to "product commercialization" and "standard establishment."

As a benchmark enterprise in China’s PVC industry, Anhui Tianchen Chemical has not only consolidated its leading position in the industry through this project but also provided an important demonstration for the transformation and upgrading of traditional chemical enterprises through the "government-industry-university-research-application" collaborative innovation model. With the large-scale application of intrinsic fireproof water-based coatings, China’s independent and controllable capabilities in the high-end fireproof materials field will be significantly enhanced, injecting new momentum into the safe development of strategic emerging industries.
