Chitosan-based Bioadhesives: Strong Bonds for Biomedical Applications
2024-11-09 09:50
Chitosan-based bioadhesives show great potential in medical technology, providing safe applications for wound healing and tissue regeneration.
Chitosan, a biodegradable and biocompatible material, is gaining prominence in medical technology, particularly as a bioadhesive. This comprehensive review highlights the unique properties of chitosan and its diverse applications in biomedicine. The adhesive ability of chitosan arises from the chemical and physical interactions of its amino and hydroxyl groups with tissue surfaces, enabling strong bonding.
These bioadhesives are characterized not only by their adhesive strength but also by their suitability for various medical applications, including wound healing, drug delivery, and tissue regeneration. Different chitosan composite-based bioadhesives and their specific uses in medicine are explored. Challenges and Future PerspectivesDespite the promising potential, challenges exist for the clinical use of chitosan-based bioadhesives, which are discussed. Finally, future perspectives for the application of these innovative materials in medical technology are outlined.
