Biogenic silver nanoparticle coating for antimicrobial and antioxidant properties on polyethylene film
2024-11-29 08:52
Using banana peel extract, an eco-friendly silver nanoparticle coating with antibacterial and antioxidant properties was developed for polyethylene packaging.
A new study in the demonstrates the biosynthesis of silver nanoparticles using banana peel extract as a reducing agent, subsequently applied to low-density polyethylene (LDPE) film. Characterized via scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction, these biogenic silver nanoparticles were then coated onto LDPE films through a dip-coating process.
The coated films exhibited significant antibacterial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria and showed antioxidant properties in free radical scavenging tests. These silver nanoparticle coatings hold promise for sustainable packaging applications with enhanced protective functionalities.
