The chemical distributor Brenntag is marking its 150th anniversary in 2024, with a formal event in Essen and global celebrations highlighting the occasion.

Brenntag, a global supplier of chemicals and ingredients, is celebrating its 150th anniversary in 2024. Founded in 1874 as an egg wholesaler in Berlin, the company has continually evolved and today serves customers around the world with over 17,500 employees at approximately 600 locations in more than 70 countries. The anniversary year will be commemorated with various events, including a formal ceremony in October at Brenntag’s headquarters in Essen.

Founded by Philipp Mühsam, Brenntag began as an egg wholesaler in Berlin, expanded to London in 1877, and started trading chemicals in 1912. In the 1940s, the company relocated its headquarters to Mülheim an der Ruhr before moving to Essen in 2017. Over the years, Brenntag grew through acquisitions and organic expansion to become a global supplier in the chemical distribution sector. Listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange since 2010, Brenntag joined the DAX in 2021.

Anniversary Reflects on Company’s History

As part of the anniversary celebrations, Brenntag has commissioned historians to thoroughly document its company history, with findings to be released throughout the year.
